Vampire movies always makes me horny, this movie did not! And for a vampire film I expect it! I did not see too much the frustration between the Predator and the Prey… the sexual tension… the fear… lips quivering… the thrill of a chase… the infinite struggle in going against ones nature… that should have been there. The vampires were too humanized except for the looks! which I adore! that it made me forget it was a vampire movie. Well there were feats of power from time to time, like in the “Shaolin soccer scene” but the rest can be attributed to a mere adrenaline rush.
I did not see Edward as a 125 year old teen! there were no traces of a century old experience behind him, none of the old world feel the jadedness of having seen it all. He was so innocent and too tame to be a predator. And Bella I don’t know what her character ought to project! The fearless lover!? but shouldn’t one expect a hint of fear from her? knowing her blood makes Edward lose control? Or a clueless girl who has no idea what she is in for? like a moth playing with the flame….
Was it the acting? Or was this story just a victim of a film’s limited capacity to retell a story? I hope this is the case… I really do… I would want to believe that the hoopla, the stir created by the book would have been justified!
Don’t get me wrong I like the movie, but movies has its limits. One thing this movie did was to inspire people to read the book. What publisher would not want that? And as for the film makers? Just look at the people lining in theaters like moths drawn to a flame. Like a vampire “Twilight” no matter how it is told was made to draw in the prey…
